Candles by Daveed

Welcome. Candles by Daveed is a small candle shop located in Charles Town West Virginia. I believe in providing you with candles that are pleasing to the senses and provide a quality burning experience.

Do you like fooling with that label blocking the full view of the candle you just purchased? Neither do I. I never place labels on the the candle that will distract from the pleasure of a burning candle.

As these candles are customizable, they are made to order and may take a few days to produce depending upon the complexity of the candle. For the best performance and scent throw, a candle should be allowed to rest for ten days after being made.. This date will be provided with your candle. If you are looking for something that is ready to ship immediately, check out the “READY TO SHIP NOW” section for items in stock and ready to go. The link is found below.

Caution should be taken with candles containing dried flowers. The plant material can catch fire and act as additional wicks, loose plant material should be removed prior to burning. NEVER leave any candle unattended while burning. Full safety recommendations will be provided with each candle.

Please note this site is new and under construction. Additional items are being added daily.

Fragrance Oil Descriptions

A description of what the available scent oils smell like. At least the best I can describe them until they figure out how to transmit scent over the internet…

Jasmine essential oil. An all natural scent made from Jasmine. It has a pleasantly light flowery scent.

Coconut / Vanilla is a fragrance oil providing a great blend of coconut and vanilla. The coconut dominates with the vanilla giving a strong second layer. It is a gentle reminder of the beach but balanced very well between the two scents.

Lavender essential oil is all natural derived from the lavender blossom. A calming scent.

Sandalwood is a fragrance oil with a pleasant earthy woodsy musk. I would dare say it is a bit manly and one of my favorites but then again, I like them all.

Fresh Linen recreates that wonderful scent of laundry just off the clothes line. It is fresh and clean.

Mountain Rain fragrance oil reminds you of that morning hike just after a rain. It is woodsy with a hint of pine and a fresh air scent.

Cinnamon fragrance oil pops with the room filling aroma so many love.

Christmas Wreath fragrance oil is a reminder of fresh pine wreaths and Christmas trees

Christmas Memory fragrance oil combines that fresh pine tree scent with cinnamon and clove spices coming from Moms Christmas baking.

Candle Safety and Use Recommendations

The following recommendations are designed to enhance the safety and performance of your candle. I recommend each of these be followed.

SAFETY FIRST

1) Never leave a burning candle unattended.

2) A burning candle is hot. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Place a barrier between your candle and the surface of your furniture to prevent damage.

ITEMS FOR SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE

1) Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before lighting. This helps control the size of the flame and improves candle longevity.

2) Never burn your candle for more than four hours, allowing the wax to completely cool and harden before relighting. This improves the candle longevity by allowing the wick to be properly maintained and trimmed. It also allows melted wax to reset and harden which increases burn time.

3) Do not leave the wick trimmings on the candle. They could relight and cause a fire hazard and consume the candle more quickly.

4) Keep your candle on a flat stable surface when burning. NEVER pick up a burning candle and walk around with it.

5) For container candles - Do allow the candle to burn until it reaches full pool. This can take three to four hours. One pet peeve I have with candles are those that leave wax unused in the container. I size the candle wick with the goal of achieving a full pool the size of the candle container This will maximize the use of the wax leaving none or very little wasted. Also, not allowing the candle to reach full pool will shorten the life span by creating a false edge within the candle and could cause the candle to tunnel down leaving wax unused.

6) For Pillar Candles - Only burn until the candle wax pool reaches the edge of the candle. If you allow the wax to drip, it will lessen life greatly as the burning wick stives to develop a pool of melted wax to support the flame. Allowing the candle to drip over the edge does not allow a . to develop and your candle will melt away into a useless pile quickly.

7) Pillar candles should always be burned in or on something that will catch any wax drippings to protect your furniture.

8) Plant material in a candle is an interesting and elegant addition for a decorative look but when burning can catch fire and act as an additional wick. Loose plant material should be removed prior to burning to reduce excessive fire risk and preserve the life of your candle.
